Brandon’s last time touching a golf club was about 5 years ago. Regardless, he was eager to agree to a round of golf at basically his home course - Dub’s Dread. The course used to advertise itself as the longest in the US, topping out at 8101 yards. The emblem and number was littered around the property on the tee boxes.
So, Bauer and I got in the car and made the 1 minute drive to the course. Fortunately for us, a co-worker of Brandon works there on occasion and comped our round. Free golf is the best golf.

I don’t know why, but I wasn’t overly engaged in the round. Well, I probably do know why…I wasn’t playing well. Spraying drives, hitting trees, it was a meh performance. We played with a couple of guys, an older Navy vet named Doc who had lived in the Charlotte area. And a guy who was in town for an insurance conference, scratch golfer and left handed to boot.

If you couldn’t tell, I didn’t take a lot of photos on the round. Was mentally out of it early. Still hit the ball, but ended up being on the phone with some “family” for about 30 minutes talking about his career. He’ll never read this, but that’s my guy, Jordan. Found myself having a lot of “one shot issues” where each hole had that one moment. On the 10th when I sliced into the driving range I called it a day. Would get on the green, take a two putt and keep chatting with Jordan on the phone. But as always, golf gives you that moment that brings you back. Ended up getting a birdie on 18, to keep my score at a 90. Atrocious. Bauer trended well as the round progressed, I did get to walk the course so I had a lot of exercise and enjoyed the round.

Grabbed a few beers at the “19th” and headed back for some afternoon work. Decided to get out of the house that evening and had some dinner over at Legends at Yard House. Back for a sip or two at the casa, overall, I’m now in double digits for states where I’ve golfed a new course. The next 10 days will be golf free before I really crank up the rounds.
