LerveTravels - My What and Why

Welcome to LerveTravels, a blog dedicated to year 48. My 48th birthday will be on Feb 21st and I’m excited to share that I’ll be hitting the road. Life has a way of asking questions and my answers are as follows:

  • I will be leveraging “camper van life” for the next 12 months
  • For my 48th year of life, I will be golfing at least one round at a course new to me in each of the lower 48 states in the US
  • During the year, I’ll be visiting 10 cities for a few weeks at a time with the goal of finding my next hometown
So, cue your “living in a van, down by the river” jokes.

The legend, Chris Farley

I’ve created an Instagram page (@LerveTravels) for you to follow. Expect a lot of pictures and some songs to accompany. I will also do my best to post daily here regarding my whereabouts, adventures and anything else of interest to me (and maybe you) to chronicle the journey.

Funny enough, my last post on a different blog via Blogger was about Mat Kearney and his new album all the way back in 2011. Always enjoyed writing and with the advent of AI, part of me was considering leaning into the tech and making it easier, supposedly. But, instead, you’ll get raw, authentic and candid me, potential grammatical and structural writing issues a-plenty. You can thank me later.

So, what’s the why here? Too much to share, just know I’m surrendering to the flow of life. Take my hand and we’re off…

I had initially pitched the idea of golfing the lower 48 first to Schmidt. Find a course in each state and just play it. Hopefully get paired with some random locals, have some fun and learn a bit about each golfer. Keep each course cost around $100 each, of course, some will be higher or lower but have the total cost be under $5,000. Blend some municipal city courses with destination tracks. Weird enough, I had never considered until now that it would be during my 48th year of life, which, somehow, just feels completely appropriate and numerically special. The where for each course is unknown, but I’ve got a bit of a roadmap on where I’ll be and when over the next year. Hey, wanna join me for a round? You let me know and we’ll make it happen.

When I started considering how to mobilize this adventure, financially I needed some relief. I can’t Vrbo my way through America. So, instead, I’ll be acquiring a sprinter van which will be my living quarters for the next year. January 2026 will be when I finalize my purchase, ideally spending the first few weeks of February living in it while in Charlotte before moving to my next location. New post on the ride to follow.

For now, I’ll be kicking off my travel at a soon to be disclosed location. On my birthday, the first daily blog will occur for the next 365 days. That’s the goal, at least. Start at the gateway (little foreshadowing here), enjoy one of my favorite pastimes, then visit 10 major metros with the goal of figuring out where I want to live when this is all said and done. I’ll be in each city for about 3 weeks, give or take. Living urban, experiencing what it’s like not to vacation but to reside there. Each city uniquely chosen. Geographically diverse.

You’ve probably found yourself here for a good reason. Thanks for that. I think an experience is best shared. Humbled you’ve read this far. Keep doing so or, even better, join me for a day or more live and in person. I promise it’ll be memorable. And scribed, right here.
