#5 IN Golf

As I drove into a nice neighborhood in Sellersburg, IN ahead of my 5th course I wondered how the day would go. A bit of a breeze, a bit of potential weather looming, a bit of sun shaded by clouds. Wasn’t sure how the day was going to go. But the course seemed to look fun and I was excited for the challenge.

I’m liking these pano views of the course, this was from the parking lot

Covered Bridge Golf Club was the backdrop for the latest course. About 15 miles north of downtown Louisville, I was excited to take on the course. Decided to walk again, after asking the Pro Shop. Ended up doing about 6.5 miles of walking, which seems to be a good estimate for a golf course. Most of the holes were right next to each other, which always aids in the walkability. Tee off of 1, easiest hole on the course and find the fairway. There’s a 4-some in front of me and I’m a single, once again. Which, I’m not enjoying. Once the green clears, I hit my approach, on in regulation and a 2-putt.

Waited on the 2nd tee for Tom and Lou, pictured below. They were just a 2-some and I asked if they wanted to join me for the round. Grateful they said yes, good friends in town from upstate NY (Rochester) who were doing some bourbon tasting and trying to golf in March as their hometown didn’t give that ability.

Lou (L) and Tom ahead of visiting Peerless (my fav)

Great time with both of them. I could tell there’s a bit of that sarcastic banter that my boys back home and I enjoy. Lou does financial planning under the Wells Fargo brand, Tom has some government contracts based on his corporate banking background. Lou got the driver working, which was helpful on this course. I’ll tell you, the ability to have these interactions mean so much to me. Talking in between shots, getting to know people, discussing life…it’s everything for me. Course was $63 all in on a Tuesday, no range balls with it but for the price, the value was absolutely there. Wind was blowing and for some holes was definitely a club plus/minus at minimum.

Sights on the course

Scrambled on the front 9. Could have easily been lower than a 39 had I not hit my tee shot on the par 3 3rd hole into the water. Proceeded to stick my 100 yard drop to about 6 feet and…miss the putt short. Big theme of the day, could not get putts to the hole. Short-sided myself on the 9th, but yeah, a near perfect front for me.

The back was a bit of a different story. My two double bogeys happened after perfect drives, dead center fairways, one from 100 out, the other from 125. Over hit one, fatted the other. Can’t express how frustrating it is to be in perfect position and just absolutely fold like a cheap tent. A horrid 8 over on the back for an 83 overall.

The Scorecard

Grabbed some late lunch at the clubhouse and was able to shower there as well, which was a nice thing. Found my way back across the border to Kentucky and secured some work time at Holsopple Brewing. Of course, slow night on Tuesday, but I was able to get some good work done and enjoyed a sip of a 12%+ peanut butter beer. Caught up with a few friends on the phone that night, also.

The brewery hosts some bluegrass music a few nights every month

Overall, another solid day. Walking 18 makes me want to nap, but fortunately I was able to power through and crash out nicely that evening back in the Louisville city limits.
